Thursday 1st - Saturday 10th July 2010
The dates for the 2010 Wrexham Science Festival have now been announced!
The Wrexham Science Festival - the only one of its kind in North Wales - will run from Thursday 1 July to Saturday 10 July 2010.
The hands-on science extravaganza, Scientriffic, will take place on Saturday 3 July.
This year’s Wrexham Science Festival will feature a full programme of events, designed to appeal to all ages and interests – from events suitable for children to events designed to support business.
The programme will be packed with science and technology talks and demonstrations, films and exhibitions. A science-themed competition – one of the most popular elements of the festival since its introduction in 2007 – will again be repeated for 2010.
Earth and the Universe; The Animal World; Human Mind and Body; and Bright Sparks will be the four themes of the 2010 festival.
Eur Ing Helen James, Chair of the Wrexham Science Festival and an Executive Director at Glyndŵr University, said: “”We have big plans for the Festival to be the highlight of the early summer calendar. The festival will have a fresh feel and encourage us all to investigate, enjoy, learn and re-think our ideas about science and technology. And, with a summer schedule, we look forward to taking advantage of lighter evenings and warmer weather too.”

Wrexham Science Festival 2009
The 2009 Wrexham Science Festival was held from 26 March until 4 April 2009. The Festival featured an eight-day programme of public lectures and presentations delving into the science behind the singing voice, streetlights, sea levels, lasers and much more. There was also a series of astronomy-themed talks, tying in with the 2009 Year of Astronomy.
The Festival was launched by TV celebrity Philippa Forrester, the former host of BBC show Tomorrow’s World, with a thought-provoking talk on the importance of looking after our environment. The Festival was brought to a spectacular close with the hands-on science extravaganza Scientriffic.
Thousands of visitors were treated to a line-up of more than 50 exhibits showcasing all aspects of science, from technology to engineering and the human body. Among this year’s highlights were the return of The Bubble Show, packed with amazing bubble sculptures and tricks, and a visit from Bjorn the Polar Bear.
Astronomy was selected as the theme for 2009’s competition, with people of all ages asked to write a poem, comic strip or short story under the title of ‘What’s In Space? A Journey Beyond Earth’. The competition attracted 125 entries from all over the world and the standard of entries received was excellent.
