New look for Wrexham Science Festival

12 February 2009

An annual science festival has been given a new look for 2009 thanks to a Llay design agency.

Llay-based Mako Creative Solutions were approached by the festival to come up with a new logo and a new design for the website, www.wrexhamsf.com, to mark the festival entering its second decade.

The new orange, pink, green and blue multicoloured prism design will appear on all merchandise and promotion in the run up to the festival, which takes place from Thursday 26 March to Saturday 4 April 2009.

Neil Edwards, creative director at Mako, said: “We came up with about 20 designs originally but the prism idea really stood out and that’s the one we went for in the end. Then we produced some templates for the website.

“It was such an exciting project to work on. We’ve been producing the brochure and artwork for the science festival for years and it’s something the staff here always look forward to.”

Event organiser Corrina Jeffreys, events coordinator at Glyndŵr University, said she was delighted with the new logo and website.

“Both look terrific,” she said. “2009 will be the first time that the Glyndŵr University name is carried with the festival as a major partner. Coupled with the fact that we celebrated our 10th anniversary last year, it was felt the time was right to give the festival a fresh look. Thanks go to everyone at Mako for providing the new look. This year’s festival promises to be bigger and better than ever before!”

The 2009 Wrexham Science Festival will be launched on Thursday 26 March by TV presenter and writer Philippa Forrester. The former Tomorrow’s World and Robot Wars star will speak about environmental issues currently facing the world in the William Aston Hall from 7.30pm.
