Scientriffic 2009
Saturday 4 April 2009, 10.30am-4.00pm
Scientriffic 2009 was another medley of exhibitions, demonstrations and exciting shows.
Thousands of visitors were treated to a line-up of more than 50 exhibits showcasing all aspects of science, from technology to engineering and the human body. Among this year’s highlights were the return of The Bubble Show, packed with amazing bubble sculptures and tricks, and a visit from Bjorn the Polar Bear.
Split into themed zones, visitors delved into the wonders of the animal kingdom; learned how the latest technology works; discovered all about the human body; and explored environmental issues - all in an interactive experimental way!
Animal Zone
Ever wanted to get up close and personal with a polar bear? Wondered what you are swimming with in the sea while on holiday? Or wanted to know what the skin of a snake feels like? Scientriffic’s Animal Zone hosted a variety of animals from tiny creepy crawlies to a giant creature like the polar bear.
Automotive Zone
Fast cars, eco cars, solar cars, classic cars and a few other transportation devices dominated this zone. Vistors learned how it all works and how they can start designing their own means of transportation.
Earth and the Environment Zone
What is causing damage to our planet and how can we prevent it? The Earth and the Environment Zone explored climate change and the effects of water pollution on wildlife, and visitors got involved making their own recycled paper.
Experimental Zone
Visitors joined in with experiments covering the whole science spectrum. If you were looking for gooey fun and building challenges, this zone was for you.
Discovery Zone – Techniquest Glyndŵr
Techniquest Glyndŵr is a Science Discovery Centre that’s designed to engage people of all ages in our amazing world of science. The centre boasts over 65 interactive hands-on exhibits and fun family activities.
Technological Zone
This zone was jam packed with technological gems. From learning how a Wii handset works to finding out how to make your own radio show, any budding inventor or engineer was in their element. This was also one of the noisiest zones at Scientriffic, offering the chance to experiment with sound like never before.
Human Body & Health Zone
The place to find out all about what we are made of and - for the not too squeamish - to see how samples of tissue and bodily fluids help diagnose disease. The zone also explored how x-rays work and how to extract DNA from cells.
